Surviving Spouse
For the purposes of the VA home loan, a surviving spouse is the spouse of a Veteran who: served and was reported MIA/KIA, died of a condition or impairment connected to their service in the Armed Forces (as determined by VA or DoD), or whose service-connected disability/impairment, they believe, entitles them to benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
